Silver Circle was established in May 1991 in Melbourne- the creation of two health care professionals- Gerry Naughtin (social worker) and Dianne Main (nurse) and a third colleague Lyn Knorr, who left in the early days. Both Gerry and Dianne had worked in local government community services and other health related roles and were frustrated by the limitations of existing services, being roster driven, not client driven.
The name developed to represent the concept of client focused care, with the ‘silver’ representing quality and older people, and the circle being the circle of life, where people at any stage may need assistance.
It was a small organisation committed to the provision of client focused care, tailored to the needs of each individual. Initially, it was a slow start, providing personal, home and community care to people paying fee for service- that is those not eligible for government funded services – or requiring more than they could get through these sources.
By 1993/4, new funding streams were being developed including CACPs, tendered home care services and opportunities to provide brokered services for other purchasers. Over time, with the success of the organization based on its reputation of quality care and commitment to client service, Silver Circle extended the regions it served from metropolitan Melbourne to Gippsland, North eastern Victoria, NSW and Adelaide. After a brief period as a part of Ramsay Health Care in 2004-05, Silver Circle was acquired by Little Company of Mary Health Care in February 2006 becoming Calvary Home Care Services, trading as Calvary Silver Circle. Since that time, Calvary Silver Circle has expanded to operate in all service areas in which LCM Health Care has a presence.
